Pandora's Jar (Box)

Zeus's vengeance for Prometheus's rebellion and retaliation did not end with his imprisonment, but had extended to all of mankind. The god king resolved that mortals would not only suffer from fire's dangers, but a punishment believed to be self inflicted. Zeus commanded Hephaestus to fashion a woman from clay, sculpting with perfect grace and beauty, a living statue of divine attributes.

The gods had each given their gifts upon her, thus, named Pandora: "The all gifted". Initially, Pandora's presence on earth brought joy along with a sealed jar as a gift that was never to be opened. Unable to resist, Pandora finally lifted the lid of the jar, instantly plaguing mankind with disease, greed, war, old age and deceit. This way, Zeus's punishment was complete.
