The Sacraficial Trick
With the new order of gods settled into power, Zeus ordered that humans must honor the divine and ritual sacrifices, with each household needing to present the gods with portions of their best food. Prometheus had devised a cunning plan to protect humanity's share of the feast. He constructed 2 offerings before Zeus on Olympus: bleached bones of oxen, covered in rich, gleaming fat. The second: the finest cuts of meat. Zeus would confidently choose the meaty portion, astonished to find himself drawn to the appearance of the fat-wrapped bones. Once Zeus had decided, the bargain was sealed: hence, the gods would only receive bones and fat.
The sly deception helped establish the ritual practice of Greek sacrifice: with gods receiving inedible offerings, marking the first direct challenge of Zeus's authority.
